- Focal Point

Drummers were educated men, often good linguists. They were highly regarded within the army and were often paid the same rate as officers. Drums were used as a means of communication, to relay orders on the battlefield and to lead the army when marching.
Drummers were often sent to parley with the enemy, frequently going to their camp so they could return with vital information about numbers and supplies. Unfortunately they would sometimes be exposed as spies, and be sent back, cut up into pieces inside their drums. Thankfully the drummers of today always return from the battlefield intact.

Drummers are the focal point of the regiment when it is marching, they ensure that everyone is in step and that maneuvers are done to exact timing.
You do not necessarily need to be musical, the beats are easy to learn and full training will be given. Although the drummers role is mainly non-combatant , during the battle they are situated behind the pike and musket blocks to convey orders, so they experience the tension and excitement of the battle. You will need to buy your own drum.
