Muskets firing at nighthe The musketeer was a soldier who fought with a five foot long matchlock musket as his primary weapon. We use firing replicas of the actual muskets used in the 1640’s and fights hand to hand with the musket and a sword. If you‘ve always dreamed of ‘swash buckling’ and the like the idea of using gunpowder to fire a musket this is defiantly for you!

Musketeers form blocks to engage the enemy. Muskets are fired about 25 meters from the enemy. We do not actually use shot in the musket, only gunpowder and wadding.

Full training is given to all prospective musketeers, and you will have to pass the Sealed Knots’ safety test before you can fire a musket on the battlefield. Prior to passing the test, musketeers can still go on the battlefield and use a “dummy” musket which does not fire.

Becoming a musketeer is a lot of fun, there is great camaraderie in the ranks that comes of fighting together along with the thrill of firing a musket. Like the pikes, musketeers always like to win.

musketeers fight hand to hand

The fun thing about being a musketeer is that after a few rounds of firing you turn your musket round to "club" it and draw your sword and go in for some hand to hand. This is like nothing else, everyone is friendly but everyone defiantly wants the victory for their regiment.

You will need to buy a reproduction matchlock musket, plus a powder flask and cleaning kit, so this is the most expensive fighting role to take on. You will also need to obtain a Shotgun Certificate and Black Powder Licence from your local Police Authority - this costs around £40 for five years.

Swords and baldricks do not need to be purchased immediately.
