Most of us live in the "Hereford and Worcester",
Gloucester and West Midlands area, with a small number in South and West
Wales. Birch's is a very sociable regiment, we have regular "drill days" throughout the winter period to help combat the "off season " blues. Check out our events page if you would like to come along. At major battle re-enactments, we brigade with other regiments of the Parliament army to form the Midland Association, such brigades within the Royalist army are known as "Tercio's" The
Midland association consists of the following regiments:
Members are also available to do school presentations, to pupils who are covering the period. Joining Birch's regimentThe Sealed Knot provides a great activity for everyone, young, old, single or families. It gives you the opportunity to travel to places and make many new friends. It need not be expensive, most regiments have enough spare clothing to loan to new members until they build up their own "kit". You don't have to go to every event, which musters you attend are entirely up to you.Be warned, this is serious fun and you will most likely become addicted! ![]() Why join a particular regiment? It's generally a good idea to join a regiment who are represented in your area, the politics of whether to join as Royalist or Parliament should not matter, the social aspect is far more important.Joining a regiment with other members near you, enables you to be more involved and meet members of your regiment, other than just at musters.
What roles can I play?Gender is unimportant. You can join as a drummer, pikeman, musketeer or camp follower. You must be aged 16 or over, to take part in actual battles, but there are roles for all ages and abilities. Rank has to be earned, you cannot assume a rank or position. This is a superb "get away from it all" activity. People who have demanding professional jobs often enjoy the role of a common soldier. There is great camaraderie found within the ranks. Interested?Contact me Malcolm Deere, and I will arrange to have more info sent to you and hopefully you can come and meet some of us to find out more about this exciting hobby. |
